Please join us this Friday, April 18, for a Science Cafe at Woods Memorial Library. Dr. Nathan Cherrington, our Center Director and an Associate Dean of the College of Pharmacy, will be discussing interindividual variability and phenoconversion.

Two people can be exposed to an environmental toxin and have different degrees of reaction. We often think this is due to genetics, where one person's metabolism isn't able to address a toxin as well as someone else. However, there are other states a person can be in that can make them react in the same way as someone with sensitive genetics. This is called phenoconversion. Dr. Cherrington studies these different things that can cause phenoconversion, such as disease state (a diseased liver can make you less able to process a toxin) or even heat stress. This can help us understand what health and environment factors make individuals more likely to experience adverse effects from toxin exposure.

Refreshments provided!

RSVP is not required but it is recommended so we can get a good headcount. You can register by emailing us at SWEHSC-CEC@arizona.edu or using this form

We look forward to seeing you then!
