Antonio Rubio

Antonio Rubio is an assistant professor of practice at the University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, where he teaches courses on introductory statistics and statistical computing.

Antonio spent the early part of his career focused on computational fluid dynamics, dynamical systems with symmetry and the development of turbulence in rotating convection.  As a graduate student at Arizona State University he looked the route to complexity in rotating convection and the different dynamical behaviors that emerged as the symmetries of the problem were broken.  As a post-doctoral researcher Antonio focused on describing fluid turbulence in rotationally constrained convection and measured how energy moved between scales in Fourier space.

Antonio joined the UArizona Mathematics Department in Fall 2014 and focused on undergraduate mathematics and statistics education.  There Antonio taught a large number of courses ranging from first year courses focused on data for the general university population all the way through to senior level statistics courses for math undergraduates.  He also taught in a large variety of formats including large lecture and both synchronous and asynchronous online.

In the summer of 2022 he brought his talents north of Speedway and joined the MEZCoPH Epidemiology and Biostatistics department.  Now he is working on continued development of the BIOS 376 introductory biostatistics course and the 450/451 courses for public health majors with a quantitative emphasis.  He is also working on developing new courses for the program, including a general education introduction to working with data.
