Social Justice Symposium, April 5

The 7th Annual Social Justice Symposium is Friday, April 5th at the University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health from 8:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The Keynote Speaker is Mike McCamon, chief community officer of Water.org, a nonprofit developmental aid organization that provides aid to regions of developing countries that do not have access to safe drinking water and sanitation.

McCamon will present “Experiments with Online Activism” at 9:15-10:15 a.m. in DuVall Auditorium at the UA Medical Center.

His role at Water.org is to shorten the distance between the organization’s work in the field and supporters, wherever they may live. These efforts include online advocacy, grassroots fundraising, digital marketing, and Technology New Ventures. He has more than 20 years of experience in the technology industry and uses these skills to promote cause-based online community building.

Following the keynote, the symposium will move to Drachman Hall, home of the UA Zuckerman College of Public Health (1295 N Martin Ave.), for a series of panel discussions with community leaders and UA faculty. Topics for these sessions include: “Exposing Environmental Injustice,” “Access for Vulnerable Populations,” “Resilience, Politics and Health Inequities,” and “Local Approaches to Global Injustice”.  The Agenda is available on the SJS web page.

The SJS is a student-driven event designed to engage students, faculty, health professionals, and community members in dialogue to cultivate awareness and encourage action in the pursuit of equal justice for all people in every aspect of our society.

Admission is free and lunch will be provided to all who register in advance. To print a copy of the Agenda and to register, please visit the SJS web page. For more information, send email questions to: 2013socialjustice@gmail.com.
