The Healthy 2B Me Summer Camp is designed to teach children the importance of proper nutrition and physical activity while having fun at the same time.
The Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health at the University of Arizona with support from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Arizona, will offer a series of week-long summer camps for children during the months of June and July. The camp is designed to teach kids at an early age the importance of proper nutrition and physical activity while having fun at the same time. Among the many activities, campers will learn how to cook and to identify tasty vegetables, and how to keep good oral hygiene.
"Instilling healthy lifestyle practices at an early age is one more approach towards fighting childhood obesity,” said Iman Hakim, dean and professor of the UA Zuckerman College of Public Health.
The camps are open to for kids ages 7-10 and grades 2-5. Activities are designed to teach healthy lifestyle skills, including nutrition, cooking, swimming and dance.
The children will learn about wellness through many fun interactive activities that will include swimming, dance, nutrition, cooking, Yoga and Zumba. Faculty and students from the College of Public Health, the Canyon Ranch Center for Prevention & Health Promotion (CRCPHP), and the Tucson Community will teach sun safety, dental health, hygiene, community and team building experiences.
Healthy 2B Me is located at the UA Recreation Center (1400 E. 6th Street) in Tucson. The hours are 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday-Friday during the weeks of June 9-13; June 23-27; and July 14-18.
