The public health SAFER team needs students to volunteer as Contact Tracers to stop the spread of COVID on campus and in Pima County. Volunteers receive training, gain valuable experience, and work with the SAFER team to be part of the solution!
We need to stop COVID spread among our campus community and in Pima County — Contact Tracing plays a vital role. When you volunteer with the SAFER team, you receive training and valuable experience. You’ll coordinate with other students on the team, learn how the system works to stop the spread of disease, and help keep us all safe.
Since March, 2020, the SAFER team (Student Aid for Field Epidemiology Response) at the Zuckerman College of Public Health has been working with UArizona and Pima County Health Department to conduct case investigations of individuals who test positive for COVID-19. Over the past 18 months, the team has investigated thousands of positive COVID cases and warned thousands more through their contact tracing efforts.
SAFER is currently working to support Pima County Health Department and other county health departments in Arizona by conducting case investigations and contact tracing for confirmed positive cases of COVID-19. As a volunteer, you will be making outbound calls to conduct interviews with COVID-19 patients — to find out information on their symptoms, exposures, contacts, and recovery. Volunteer shifts will take place in our virtual call center, which is hosted on Zoom. While there is no minimum time commitment for volunteers, we do prefer your ability to work at least one 2-hour shift per week.
In order to volunteer, you must have an active UA NetID, and complete trainings and agreement forms (see below) and HIPAA Essentials training through EDGE Learning.
Students, staff, and Designated Campus Colleagues (DCCs) all encouraged to volunteer and join the team!
