The free Feast for Your Brain event will include presentations, performances, health services, games, mind-body exercises, food, and a raffle for prizes, all presented to increase awareness and engagement with healthy aging practices as part of the Precision Aging Network’s “healthy brain for life” projects.
The free Feast for Your Brain healthy aging engagement event will reward participants with presentations, performances, health services, games, mind-body exercises, food services, and a raffle for prizes. Older adults and their families are all invited to attend on Saturday, September 10, 2022 from 10am to 3pm in the Health Sciences Innovation Building (HSIB) on the University of Arizona Health Sciences Campus. Graduate and undergraduate students are also encouraged to join the event where they can sign up for internships, experiential learning credits, and the PAN student ambassador program for healthy aging and population health research.
The event brings together many aging experts from the University of Arizona Health Sciences and other partners. Coordinated by the Zuckerman College of Public Health to increase awareness and engagement with healthy aging practices and research opportunities, the event will support the Precision Aging Network (PAN) which is empowered by the MindCrowd brain research project and funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In 2021, the University of Arizona was awarded a large grant to support the PAN project.
Zhao Chen, PhD, MPH
Zhao Chen, PhD, MPH, Distinguished Professor and Associate Dean for Research at the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health leads the community engagement, recruitment, and retention effort for the Precision Aging Network in Arizona and across study sites in the United States.
“This event brings together our many community partners in Southern Arizona and our health science expertise in healthy aging for a fun day of information and performances,” says Dr. Chen, “we want to engage people and show them the benefits of participating in the Precision Aging Network research studies. The PAN research will improve our understanding of important factors for brain health and physical health as our population ages. At the same time, we want to train the next generation of professionals and researchers by providing experiential learning opportunities in PAN to UArizona students.”
A national scale research network established with funding from the NIH’s National Institutes on Aging, PAN was created to develop innovative community-engaged brain aging research that will help to close the gap between lifespan and brain-health span. With multiple partners and study sites (UArizona, ASU, University of Miami, Emory University, Johns Hopkins University, Translational Genomics Research Institute) PAN brings a new scale to brain research across geographic regions and diverse communities.
