Thanks to everyone who joined us for our annual Scholarship Luncheon to celebrate our supporters and our amazing scholarship students!
We were delighted to see so many of our supporters and scholarship students at our annual MEZCOPH Scholarship Luncheon on April 7, 2022! We were all able to reconnect in-person, and our donors who fund scholarships were able to meet the students they support.
We heard inspirational stories from current scholarship students Isabel Stone, Sam Sneed, and Renee Goldtooth-Halwood. We also heard from one of our accomplished alumna, Mariana Casal Singetary, MD, MPH, MBA, who talked about the opportunities enabled by the scholarship she received as a student, and shared insights about how her public health education has influenced her career.
Finally, we heard from Jan Kostanty, a successful business consultant and Board Member on our MEZCOPH Community Advisory Board, about the unique rewards of service learning in our degree programs, and the transformative work that our Mobile Health Units are doing.

Sam is interested in infectious disease, water quality, and other issues impacting tribal and minority populations. While preparing to apply
to medical school, he intends to work as an environmental health researcher. Sam’s dream career is to work as a public health researcher and physician that is involved in academia.

Dr. Erlinda Tejada Rodriguez Scholarship/Victoria Foundation Scholarship Award & Zuckerman Family Foundation Native American/Pascua Yaqui Tribe Scholarship
Renee firmly believes that the more Indigenous peoples who pursue doctoral degrees, the more their voices will be heard in academia and public health. Renee intends to create and implement interventions that are effective in Native American communities, prioritize research and evaluation from an Indigenous lens, and revolutionize research protocols.

Alumna: Mariana Casal Singletary, MD, MPH ’14, MBA ’17
Received the Andrew W. Nichols Initiative Scholarship as an MPH student
Prior to attending the University of Arizona to earn her MPH in 2014 and her MBA in 2017, she received her Medical Doctor degree from the University of Valparaiso School of Medicine in Chile. She subsequently completed the required residencies at the Naval Hospital there. She then worked as an attending physician in emergency departments in Chile and in Germany. After moving to the United States Dr. Casal Singletary served as the Arizona Border Infectious Disease Surveillance Officer at the Arizona Department of Health Services, Office of Border Health in Tucson. And recently served as the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Surveillance Division Manager at Pinal County Public Health Services District.

Community Advisory Board Member: Jan Konstanty
Jan Konstanty has an extensive background in international business. Proficient in strategy development – how to identify markets and successfully position and grow businesses – Mr. Konstanty has successfully restructured and repositioned businesses throughout his career. He has strong analytical skills, with expertise in financial analysis, credit and risk analysis, and the functioning of capital markets. Jan teaches in the areas of innovation, consulting and entrepreneurship. He has been a member of the MEZCOPH Community Advisory Board for over a decade.
