In collaboration with the Arizona Department of Health Services, a team of faculty and students from the college produced a health equity capacity assessment report about Sexual Violence Prevention and Education Programs in Arizona.

A team of faculty and students from the Zuckerman College of Public Health assessed organizational capacity to integrate health equity into programs and services for Sexual Violence Prevention and Education Programs (SVPEP) in Arizona in collaboration with the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS). The SVPEP Report was finalized in fall 2023 and the findings were presented at the Sexual Violence Prevention and Education Programs Summit hosted by ADHS in October 2023.
The Arizona SVPEP assessment was conducted in collaboration with ADHS by John Ehiri, PhD, Senior Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs in the Zuckerman College of Public Health at the University of Arizona, and students in the Department of Health Promotion Sciences – Abidemi Okechukwu, MD, (DrPH Candidate (at the time of the assessment), and Yemisi Ayoade, MD, an MPH student.
The assessment focused on how much Sexual Violence Prevention programs in Arizona align with larger health equity goals, and the team developed an Equity Capacity Evaluation Framework to assess programs’ capacity to implement health equity-focused services. The College of Public Health team conducted numerous surveys and interviews, and ultimately released the Arizona SVPEP report for ADHS that recommends areas and strategies for improvement.
“The Sexual Violence Prevention and Education Programs Report for Arizona helps us understand what we are doing well in Arizona to prevent sexual violence from a health equity perspective, and where we can improve the services we provide," said Dr. Ehiri, “We are very pleased to collaborate with the Arizona Department of Health Services and support them in the important public health work they do all around the state.”
