With women accounting for nearly half of the total population in China, gender equality has consistently been listed as one of China’s national priorities. The government’s decades of efforts toward promoting women’s all-around development have led to some fruitful outcomes; yet women’s roles within family and society remain gendered. In this presentation, Dr. Jia Wang, human resource development researcher at Texas A&M University, will introduce China’s legislation for protecting women’s equal rights and interests, and unpack how the current legal and political structures have promoted or hindered women’s advancement.

Dr. Wang is a tenured professor in the Adult Education and Human Resource Development (AEHRD) program, the College of Education and Human Development at Texas A&M University-College Station in Texas. As a scholar, Dr. Wang has examined critical and contemporary HRD issues in five interacting dimensions: international/national and cross-cultural HRD, workplace incivility, workplace learning, organizational crisis management and career/family issues. Dr. Wang served one of the flagship HRD journals – Human Resource Development Review – as the editor-in-chief from 2017-2020 and associate editor from 2014-2017, and currently is a member of the editorial board for four international journals.
