The Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, Phoenix Program, is partnering with the Mexico Section of the U.S. Mexico Border Health Commission, to develop and implement a primary prevention mobile unit to provide access to health services and promote healthy lifestyle choices to vulnerable Latino populations in Pima County. In 2018, with the assistance of the Arizona Health Department of Health Services, the UA Primary Prevention Mobile Units were able to expand their service area.

Specific Goals

• Provide health access services via the mobile units targeting key priority issues such as nutrition, obesity, diabetes, reproductive health, child health, mental health, HIV/AIDS, addictions, domestic violence, and access to health services, among others.
• Referrals to local clinics, health institutions or to health specialist for further medical care and Ventanillas de Salud (VDS) follow-up on a case-by-case basis.
• Launch preventative health campaigns and promote healthy lifestyle choices utilizing culturally and sensitively created pamphlets, fliers, videos, and group presentations and workshops via the mobile unit.
• Provide quality services to all participants who approach the mobile unit regardless of race, religion, age, sex, LGBTQ orientation, economic status and physical/mental disability.
• Provide additional supplementary information on educational, legal and financial support.

Communities Served

The service area is determined by utilizing the designation of Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSA’s) areas within Pima, Santa Cruz, and Cochise county in order to identify the targeted areas for the mobile health unit project. Current areas being serviced include:
