Public Health Minor

The minor in public health for undergraduate students is a great opportunity to infuse public health, community health, and other integral health concepts into a student's curriculum. This foundational knowledge will inform a range of career paths from community health work to disease prevention and medicine. Bring the power of public health to your path forward!

The Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health is dedicated to promoting health and wellness of individuals and communities in the southwest and globally with an emphasis on achieving health equity through excellence in research, teaching, and service. Our Minor in Public Health serves as an extension of our mission to promote health and social justice locally and globally. This minor will enhance your skills and prepare you to work with community organizations, health and wellness programs, and government agencies and non-profits to help people and communities lead healthier, happier lives.

The Public Health minor is available to main and online campus students. A minimum of 18 units are required for the undergraduate minor in Public Health. 

Required courses (9 units): 

  • HPS 178 - Personal Health and Wellness (3)
  • HPS 200 - Introduction to Public Health (3)
  • EPID 309 - Introduction to Epidemiology (3; Pre-requisite: MATH 112 or higher)

Upper-division elective courses (9 units required): Public health minor students choose nine (9) units of upper-division elective coursework (300 or 400 level public health courses). Students have the option to take interesting courses on topics around health care in the US, biostatistics, health disparities, strategic planning, global health, and many more. Check with your advisor and consult the current schedule of public health courses for all options. See here for a complete list of elective course options.

2.0 GPA

Admission to the minor requires a minimum 2.0 GPA.

How to Declare the Minor

Step One

Take time to review the minor curriculum guide and course options to ensure the Public Health Minor is the best option for your career goals and interest.

Step Two

Declare Minor

Complete the online Public Health Minor Declaration Form. Note: Admission into the minor does not guarantee entry into public health courses, as course registration depends on meeting course pre-requisites and course availability.  

STEP THREE

Find your Advisor

See the academic advising page to determine your academic advisor (determined by the student's campus and last name). Once the minor has been added to your program in UAccess, you will have access to email and/or meet with your assigned minor advisor.
