Stay Engaged: Actively participate in class discussions, group projects, and extracurricular activities. Engaging with your peers and professors can enhance your learning experience and build valuable connections. Seek Support: Don't hesitate to reach out for help when needed. Whether it's academic assistance from professors or support services from the university, there are resources available to help you succeed.

Get involved! Join at least one club as it will help you meet people and take your mind off of school. Also, try to work ahead! A lot of MPH work has semester long projects so make sure not to save them for the last week of the school year.

Research, connect and showcase your passion: Carefully research MEZCOPH’s programs and faculty to ensure that they align with your goals, and prepare a timely application that shows how your interests align with the college’s strengths. Connect with faculty members and current students to gain valuable insights and establish professional relationships. Highlight your work or research experience in public health, especially those demonstrating your commitment to health disparities and community health Once you start your program at MEZCOPH ensure you build strong relationships with your professors and classmates. Faculty members can be valuable mentors, and your peers can offer support, collaboration opportunities, and diverse perspectives. Balancing coursework, research, and other activities can be challenging but staying organized and managing your time well will help.

Reach for the moon. Talk to the professor whose research you are interested in being a part of. Join or start that club or organization because you want to make a difference or be involved. Talk to your advisors and never be afraid to ask for help. MEZCOPH is a community, and it takes a community to build a well-rounded public health leader.

Enjoy your experience in getting your degree and learning. Your experiences are not limited to the assignments you complete or classes you take

Network with current students to learn from their experiences. There are so many resources to support you- read and ask about these resources. Ask and you shall find, knock and it shall be given unto you.

Go at your own pace. Everyone has a different experience within MEZCOPH and the completion of their program, do not feel behind based off where other colleagues are in comparison to you. Read the MPH listserv emails that are sent out each week!! There are so many research, job and field work experience provided in these that all you need to do is sign up or apply for! Do not forget to take time for yourself to decompress and do things you enjoy outside your program, to help not get burnt out. Talk with your cohort during orientation and within your classes in your first year! These are the people you will see in many of your classes throughout the completion of your program!

Graduate school is a new chapter of your life and there will be ups and down, but embrace the change that happens! If you want to try a new way of doing something or living life, try it -- you never know what might come from it!

Lazaro Ruiz

Online MPH in Applied Epidemiology

I appreciate MEZCOPH for its commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion. Despite being an online student, I still feel deeply connected to both my fellow students and the faculty. Additionally, I value MEZCOPH's active engagement within communities and the positive contributions it makes to community members.

Allison Sarko

MPH, Epidemiology

I chose public health to find out more about various health issues/diseases that affect communities, so that I can help improve the health of an entire community by increasing their knowledge about health issues/diseases and their accessibility to resources.

Sage Vu

MPH, Epidemiology / MS, Innovations in Aging

My tip for future students is to embrace every opportunity that comes your way and actively participate in all that your journey has to offer! Whether it's joining clubs, participating in research, or volunteering for causes you're passionate about, each opportunity will contribute to your growth and learning.
