Public Health Practice, Policy & Translational Research

Why Study at The University of Arizona?

Our Work

Our vision is to seamlessly work within the University of Arizona, University of Arizona Health Sciences, and Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health infrastructures.

In support of the MEZCOPH mission, the Phoenix Campus/Division of Public Health Practice and Translational Research aims to expand MEZCOPH's reach throughout the State and provide an education, research and service program aligned with the MEZCOPH Tucson, UA Never Settle and the University Arizona Health Sciences Center strategic plans.

Research

Faculty within the Phoenix programs engage in vibrant research projects and have varied expertise in the college and research centers across the university. Examples of research interests and expertise include program development and implementation, telemedicine, business, finance, cultural competency, nutrition, epidemiology, border/bi-national health, health disparities, immunizations, public administration, community based participatory research, and preventive medicine.

Community Outreach

Faculty and students have provided public health services to the community via service learning courses, grant collaboration, community education, volunteer donation drives, and the Juntos por Salud Mobile Health Unit. Outreach and service not only aids the community, but both students and faculty gain increased awareness of issues of concern to the public and how they best can apply their knowledge to address these challenges.

Students in the Public Health Practice Seminar Course (PHP696V) often work on projects that have community implications. This Fall 2019 semester, several students developed a community resource guide that lists recreational resources in Arizona for those with various disabilities. This inventory is indexed by location and where they are appropriate for children, adults, or all. You can download the list of resources as a PDF.

Phoenix Bioscience Core

Located in the heart of downtown Phoenix, the Phoenix Bioscience Core is a premier and dynamic atmosphere for innovative academics, research and clinical activities. The PBC presents tenants with multi-million dollar facilities and aspires to stretch over 100 acres.

From start-ups to multinationals, this location provides countless opportunities for bioscience pioneers to expand and develop. The city of Phoenix enables the progress by implementing effective programs that further the bioindustry.

According to a recent study commissioned by University of Arizona, the economic impact of the Phoenix Biomedical Campus is over $1.3 billion annually and has already created over 9,400 jobs in downtown Phoenix.
